MesoWest's 20th Anniversary!

January 1, 2017 marks the 20th year for MesoWest to provide seamless access to environmental data made available from diverse public sources.

Begun in the early 1990s

and referred to originally as the Utah Mesonet, MesoWest has grown from its initial focus in the early years on the western United States to cover environmental conditions throughout North America at over 50,000 locations.

MesoWest would not have been possible

over the past 20 years without the financial support from the National Weather Service, other federal and state agencies, and commercial firms.

We are equally appreciative of the willingness of so many from all sectors of the Weather Enterprise (government agencies, educational institutions, commercial firms, and the public) to allow public access to the information they collect.

Data flow in January 1997 was a little smaller than it is today

Here is the number of observations and stations that reported in the first hour of 1997 and 2007.
